Darel Pich – revelations of the newly appeared champion (№2 (20) from June, 09th, 2009)

How you have come to billiards?

– All has begun with снукера. Parents always encouraged my hobby, it very much helped. I played since the childhood and until to me it was not executed twenty three years. Then I have made the decision to test in pool as earned is not enough, and to live off parents any more did not want. They, of course, rasstro - ились when I have left снукер, but have understood and have supported me.

– What were your highest снукерные achievements?

– In a rating of professionals I have reached the hundred seventy eighth position for three years. I know, it sounds not very much impressively, but any снукерист in Britain will confirm, as it is difficult to achieve even such results. My highest break has made hundred forty two points, I have made it on tournament «Dubai Duty Free Classic». Besides, I have won much аматорских tournaments.

– Whether you are engaged снукером today?

– I have absolutely departed from it. At all I do not play. But at me the same manager, as at well-known снукеристов – Shona Murphy, Nile Robertson, Rajana Day. Therefore about results of professional tournaments I наслышан.

– What your way the main distinction between снукером and a pool? What should the person passing from one kind of billiards another consider?

– Besides an obvious difference in the sizes of a table and billiard pockets there are more many nuances. At пулиста in a stock there should be a weight of blows, this kind of billiards where is more various, he demands an ingenuity. Снукер it is ready more постановочен and it is predicted. But the main distinction, in my opinion, consists that the pool demands from the player of a moral fortress. It is severe enough kind of sports, here again it is important to be able to etch all negative from a head – differently it will be difficult to remain at height.

– Tell about the first steps in a pool.

– As already mentioned, I have passed to it at the age of twenty three years, in 1995. My start has appeared successful enough – I have won three first tournaments. All of them were rating in Britain, therefore they were followed by the invitation to tournament «World Pool Masters». There I too have won. And at present for me the status of the youngest sportsman ever winning this competition is registered. The same year I have gone to protect honour of Europe on the Cup Moscow horses. We then have overcome Americans with the account 16:15 (considering that since then without participation of Picha the national team of Europe has celebrated a victory only once, in 2002, and after its last year's returning in a command has again repeated long-awaited success, the conclusion arises: and can, Darel and is that key player who provides to it good results? – A bus comment).

– How you learnt to play a pool? Asked council other players or peeped behind them aside, trying to adopt all the best?

– I never anybody did not ask council. Adopted all on distance: looked and looked, but only on the best.

– I heard, what your favourite players – Flight and О'Салливан?

– Yes, because I admire their achievements in billiards. These two are absolutely not similar against each other, but both know the business. They always inspire me on new achievements (the truth, now sometimes crafty answers a question on the favourite billiard-player Darel «I!». However, has the right. – a bus comment).

– Give we will talk about the World championship. How many time you took in it part?

– Nine years on end, with 1999 for 2007.

– What match of the previous World championship was for you the most difficult?

– Here I will name that memorable meeting with Frantsisko Bustamante (more in detail about it read in magazine «Billiard world» №6 from 2007. – a bus comment). I was pulled out forward with the account 8:3, have made an error, and next time have approached to a table when the contender was already in a step from a victory. But not it is the reason on which I will remember still for a long time that match. In the eighteenth party at us serious dispute has happened, and its destiny completely depended on words of the referee. The decision was accepted in my advantage, but the Philippine group of support for it nearly has not torn to pieces me. All of them very much wanted, that has won Bustamante. I, of course, understand them – they supported the. Only to me from it it became easier not. As a matter of fact, I in a life did not test such pressure! My feet in general refused to move – the sensation, as if they metal was created. But I have managed to gather: has finished the account to 9:9, and then has won solving party and has passed in the following circle sorevno - ваний.

– What has helped you to become the champion? In what a secret of your success?

– I managed to keep self-control. Even when the course of events turned around against me, I remained quiet, constrained, assured and focused. This championship was my hour of triumph. It, undoubtedly, became the happiest period in my career.

– Whether your life has changed after you have won a title of the world champion? Whether there were at you new sponsors? Whether there was you a celebrity in the homeland?

– I – still Darel Pich whom was earlier, and personally have not especially changed. But my present life, of course, differs from the former. I became more popular. Organizers invite me to the tournaments, offer me money for performances. There were new reliable sponsors. My participation in several teleprograms is already co-ordinated. But I will not tell that in England I – a celebrity. All the same the pool for the present remains in a shade снукера.

– British act on international scene all better and better. In what your way the reason of such lifting?

– Practically all taken place пулисты have come from снукера, and there is enough recently. Snukernye skills very much help, and perfection is a business of time. Besides, our achievements inspire others. More and more people devote itself to a pool, so prospects at England excellent.

– What qualities and skills the good player should possess?

– First, it should train and fulfil persistently those moments which do not go right at once. Secondly, it is necessary to concentrate always on game – on each concrete match, without being sprayed on others. It is not necessary to be upset because of failures. It is important to be assured, positively adjusted and to enjoy game by all means!

– The traditional question which interests fans, – how and when you has received the nickname?

– In a youth I looked where more presentably, than now (smiles). Therefore me began to name «The Dazzler» (in a translation from English "Bright", "Stylish". – a bus Comment). This nickname has got accustomed and in the course of time remains invariable.

– Whether you know something about Russian billiards?

– Yes, I heard about it. Even saw a table. But itself did not try to play, therefore about Russian billiards of anything I can not tell.

– Besides a pool what hobbies at you still is?

– Different: a golf, music (I play on keyboard), a karaoke and driving of my new car Nissan Skyline.

– Tell a little about the family. I know that recently in your life there was a joyful event – you married.

– Yes, this year I and my charming girlfriend Lesli have celebrated wedding. We have fine daughter Elli, to it year. And in general I am very close with the family – mum, the daddy and sisters.

– What plans at you on the future? How many years you still are going to be engaged in a pool?

– I will continue the career until it to me will bring pleasure. And concrete plans … the Pool – severe enough kind of sports. There is at it a property to give to you of a kick if you will try to be the clever man and to predict the future. Therefore I will simply tell that I wish to play and win... And it is not important, what will be a title – any is pleasant.
