CPW Rehab Sponsors Fall Prevention Tips for Older Adults Southwyck Shopping Center October 20th

Among older adults, falls are the leading cause of injury deaths and the most common cause of nonfatal injuries and hospitals admissions for trauma. In celebration of National Physical Therapy Month, CPW Rehab will sponsor a talk about "Fall Prevention Tips for Older Adults" on October 20, 2004, at the Southwyck Shopping Center. The event begins at 9:00 AM and is free of charge and open to the public. National Physical Therapy Month, celebrated each October, is a nationwide event that seeks to educate the public about the benefits of physical therapy.Paul Barnes, PT, will discuss how the body maintains its balance and describe common balance problems faced by older adults. "More than one-third of adults aged 65 and older fall each year," explained Barnes.

"Twenty to thirty percent of those who fall suffer moderate to severe injuries, such as hip fractures or head traumas, which reduce mobility and independence and can increase the risk of premature death," he continued. Mr. Barnes will identify modifiable risk factors and provide tips and exercises for improving balance and preventing falls. "Physical therapy can help older adults learn to cultivate and maintain higher levels of strength, flexibility, and endurance in a way that still feels safe and secure," said Barnes.Physical therapists provide services that help restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities of patients suffering from injuries or disease. They work to restore, maintain, and promote overall fitness and health.About CPW RehabCPW Rehab provides physical therapy, aquatic therapy and kinesiotherapy to NW Ohio and SE Michigan.

Choosing A Business That's Right For You

Q: I really want to start my own business, but I have no idea what business would be best suited for me. I'm also eager to get started, but I don't want to pick the wrong business just because I'm impatient. How should I go about deciding what business would be best for me?-- Samuel J.A: Before I answer your question, Samuel, I want you to reach around and pat yourself on the back for not letting your eagerness push you into making a wrong decision. All too often we entrepreneurs tend to let our impatience drive us to make decisions that we later regret. In business such haste can be very costly, indeed.I always compare starting a business to jumping into a pool of freezing water.

There are typically two types of entrepreneurs who take the plunge. The first are the "Toe Testers." These are those cautious folks who just stick their big toe in the pool to gauge the temperature of the water. It is for these careful entrepreneurs that the phrase "testing the waters" was coined. Toe...

Myths of Pool

The Dominant EyeEverybody thinks you need to put your cue under your dominant eye or under your chin. But where does Keith McCready and Earl Strickland fit in then? If this were the case, I guess they might need to give back their world championships. Neither Keith nor Earl hold their cues underneath their "dominant eye." Keith and Earl, of course, are not the only players who hold their cue in a place other than their "dominant eye," or chin. The dominant eye is only good for the length of your arm. After that length, both eyes must work together to give you true precision in aiming.Hit the Ball and Then Follow ThroughIf you hit the ball, it's gone.

What good is follow-through going to do? The ball has already left the tip of your cue. What would a baseball batter do if he hit the ball mid-swing, and THEN finished his swing. What would he have? A bunt, right? How about a golfer: if a golfer hits the ball, and then he decides to finish his swing and follow through?...

Some O. H. & S. For You To Consider

Clicking a mouse isn't exactly vigorous exercise, so I thought we might consider a little Occupational Health and Safety. If you're like me, you spend quite a few hours each day 'slaving over a hot computer' - and it's probably one the most sedantary things you can do.As well as some exercise, there are several things you should pay attention to concerning your workspace.Your chair.Often in home offices, we sit on any spare chair available that probably isn't really the right height relative...

Securing Your Accounts With Well-Crafted Passwords

In the past I've never really paid much attention to security issues when it comes to user names and passwords. Frankly I figured it was all a lot of overblown hype. This led to an unfortunate incident that involved my website being attacked, apparently by a skillful youth with a propensity for mischief. The main security flaw with my website was probably the simple fact that the username and password were exactly the same. Granted I did realize that this wasn't highly intelligent but I didn't...
